Sterilising your jars before putting your precious preserves into them is very important, and very easy!

Whether you’re using a fowlers vacola or using some recycled or new glass jars they must be sterilised. Some people pop them through their hot dishwasher cycle and then fill the jars as soon as they come out of the machine. Being on solar power we don’t have a dishwasher, so I do it the old fashioned way, in my oven. To start with wash your jars and their lids in soapy hot water, then heat the jars in a very low oven (120 degreesish) for 10 mins. If the oven is too hot the jars will crack when you put your perseveres in them. Very upsetting! So don’t be afraid get preserving, now all you need is something yummy to preserve!
