Berry Nice Smoothie

I could devour blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries all day. Not just delicious, but also full of antioxidants, that’s a win win! When it’s berry season I go mad for them. I wish I could find a few more secret places to go blackberry picking. We used to go blackberry picking all the time as kids, but now it’s difficult to find places that haven’t been sprayed to try and kill them off. And because of their invasive nature I just can’t bear planting any in my garden, so I’ve stuck with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Here’s a berry smoothie recipe and a few little berry tips to get you off to a flying start.

Blueberries:
1. Blueberries need acidic soil.
2. Add heaps ‘o’ heaps of manure and compost prior to planting and allow the soil to rest for a couple of months.
3. Blueberries need to be kept moist. Don’t allow the plant to dry out.
4. Always pick the blueberries by hand and place them in a shallow basket as not bruise or squash them.

Raspberries:
1. It’s best to dig in compost a few weeks before planting your raspberries and continue fertilising throughout the fruiting season.
2. Keep your raspberries moist but not waterlogged.
3. Raspberries must be pruned each year.
4. Like anything, raspberries are so much more delicious home grown.

Plus my strawberry tips can be found here!
